SERVICE WITHIN MY DISCIPLINE

• In July 2024, I presented on "Violence in Joshua" with two other Old Testament scholars. This presentation was recorded via video for the Church of the Nazarene's ministerial course of study.

• In April 2024, I attended the Church of the Nazarene's Global Theology Conference in Argentina and collaborated with pastors and scholars from other countries

• I am a current member of the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL) and have attended the conference from 2022-present.

• In June 2021, Nazarene Theological Seminary invited me to present on two panels with other Old Testament professors about God's love in the Old Testament. The panel discussions were recorded for NTS' Praxis Library.

• I regularly contribute to publications for the Church of the Nazarene, including Holiness Today and their adult discipleship curriculum (see Scholarship section for full list of contributions).

SERVICE TO MNU

• In fall 2022, fall 2023, fall 2025, and fall 2026 I created and implemented a unique "mock classroom" experience for visiting prospective students (on behalf of Admissions).

• Passion to Serve - I have volunteered at Havencroft Elementary with MNU every fall since 2022

• Persistence Summit - I presented a workshop entitled, “How to Transition and Get Things Done" (September 2023)

• WeLead - I was invited to speak at a WeLead gathering (2020) and a WeLead fall retreat (2022)

• Pioneer Days - Each year, I represent the Department of Christian Ministry and Formation by meeting with incoming freshman and their parents, answering questions about the department and their first year, and updating their fall semester enrollment.

• I participate and contribute to Department of Christian Ministry and Formation annual freshman retreat in the fall and the senior retreat in the spring.

  • In fall 2024 and fall 2025, I planned and led the freshman retreat as part of my role teaching Introduction to Ministry

  • Senior retreats - I lead the students in either the evening or morning liturgy; I also develop and facilitate a game for the students called, "10 Years From Now"

  • Freshman retreats - I share my "Turning Points" (calling story) and meet in a small group with my advisees to get to know each other more personally

  • Senior retreat 2021 - I led the students in a lament teaching and practice

• I spoke at The Call in summer 2021.

• I have met with prospective students and parents during the semester to introduce them to the department, answer questions about the majors and courses, and present an overview of our Ministerial Student Internship Program and scholarship.

SERVICE WITHIN MY COMMUNITY

Redemption Church

1. • I am a committed member of Redemption Church (since 2021) and preach regularly as a layperson. I am part of a small group that has been meeting since 2022.

   • In the summers of 2023 and 2024, I met weekly with the lead pastor and two other lay persons to plan the sermon series on Numbers (2023), Deuteronomy (2024), Genesis (2025), and the Deuteromistic History (2026).

   • I have volunteered monthly to teach the preschoolers on Sunday mornings at Redemption Church since 2022. In June 2024, I served at Redemption's community summer camp.

   • Since 2022, I have been an active participant with The Good Faith Network via Redemption Church. The Good Faith Network is a justice initiative through faith communities in Johnson County. These faith communities partner together by researching Johnson County's needs (specially, for those who are marginalized) and presenting them before the county commissioners. They also hold our government officials accountable. Because of The Good Faith Network, Johnson County has adopted measures that aid the homeless, the poor, and the mentally ill. My involvement includes attending bi-monthly meetings, occasionally being present at city council meetings, and attending the "Nehemiah Assembly" every May for communication with the county commissioners. 

Workshops for Faith Communities

• In May 2024, I facilitated an interactive workshop on the prophetic corpus for Christ Church Anglican (see scholarship section)

• In August 2023, I offered a workshop on the wisdom literature at Belton Church of the Nazarene. The pastor wrote the following email to my chair in response:

"I just wanted to let you know that last night, August 29th we hosted Professor Christina Bohn at our church. We had asked her several months ago to plan a seminar for us on the Old Testament, and she prepared a wonderful lesson on Wisdom Literature. It was truly excellent! Not only did she graciously nudge my people to think of the scriptures differently than some of them were used to, but she was able to incorporate their feedback and weave it masterfully back into the content she had to share with us. (Being married to a teacher myself, I know this is a pretty difficult skill!).  I wanted to let you know and encourage you because it seems like you've done a great job with your department. Professor Bohn represented not just her subject, but also MNU impressively well. And I'm grateful to the school for sharing such quality resources with the rest of the Church."

• In April 2023, I presented for the KC District's lay leadership training day (called "EquipKC"). I facilitated a workshop on interpreting the Old Testament through the perspective of exile.

SERVICE IN ADVISING/MENTORING

Academic Advising

• Since fall 2021, I have been the primary academic advisor for 10–15 students in my department per academic year

• Each semester, I meet with advisees one-on-one to guide their scheduling processes

• I assist graduating seniors in submitting graduation applications

• I assist students in submitting substitution and waiver forms and ensuring that all transfer credits have been properly applied to students' transcripts

• I occasionally field questions from students in other majors about what ministry classes they can add to their schedule based upon their theological interests

Academic Mentoring

• In spring 2024, I helped two psychology students in my Historical Books class craft research papers that were interdisciplinary (psychology and biblical studies)

• In fall 2023, I reviewed and advised a MNU graduate's Ph.D. application

Spiritual Mentoring

• Generally, I meet with at least one new student each semester for a discussion about their faith development. We meet to process questions they have about their beliefs and the struggles they have with the Bible. Often, I simply listen and affirm their search for answers as an act of faithfulness.

• In fall 2024, I met with Franely Rodriguez every-other-week for spiritual guidance and mentorship.

• Since 2023, I have met with a student (Emma Erickson) every-other-week to help her "listen to her life" and discern her identity and calling in ministry. We also do spiritual practices together. Emma recounts this experience in this marketing video here (no bribes were arranged on my part before or after its filming).

• I provided spiritual direction to a kinesiology student (Stanley Baldwin, '24) after he took Discovering the Old Testament with me. For three years (2021-2024), I met with him at least once a semester to help him notice God's presence in his life and discern his calling in the medical field.

• I regularly met with a student (Courtney Roughton, '24) who was discerning her call to ministry. We met three times before she changed her major to ministry and then met once a month for further discussion.

• I regularly met with a senior ministry student (Natasha Arnold, '21) and helped her discern her calling and application process for graduate school (2020-2021). Natasha recently graduated from Duke Divinity and we still talk on the phone or in-person when she visits Kansas City.
